I’m Danielle Fails, M.S.

Yes, you read that right – Master of Science.

This blog was created out of my extreme love of books and as an outlet for my creative side as I navigate the science-y work world. Just like the scientific world, I believe in full disclosure–authenticity all the way. No gimmicks, no frills, just. the. facts. folks. Here, you won’t even find photo filters (I don’t know how to use them *gasp*)!

The Beginning

I got my B.S. in Biomedical Science in 2015, followed by a M.S. in Biology/Parasitology in 2017. In the midst of my M.S., I decided to minor in English because if I had to pay for school, I may as well take some classes for “funsies”. Best. Decision. Ever.

My career goal was simple: become a scientist, exploring the outdoors and making new discoveries. The reality: nothing was available or I didn’t have experience. Just dandy.

So, I took the first available job in my field and while I love what I do (skin cancer researcher at U.T. MD Anderson Cancer Center), I love writing and reading even more. Research takes a lot out of you, takes time, and requires long days away from family. This, friends, is my respite.

So, About Me

I’m a reluctant Texas girl (the folks chose this hotbox over Wisconsin). To further prove this *reluctant* point – Pepsi is better than Dr. Pepper, Whataburger is overrated, and I don’t own a single pair of cowboy boots.

My husband, two girls, and myself live in Spring so I can easily commute. I wear a lot of hats around here: mother, wife, aunt, sister, scientist, book addict, aspiring writer…

My husband is everything I am not: easily outgoing, worrywart, planner, lover of all things Star Wars and spicy foods, history buff, and dare I say Texas’ biggest fan.

We have two beautiful daughters who, luckily, share most of his traits. However, their love of reading–that’s all me. All of you moms out there (existing, soon-to-be, aspiring), start reading to your littles early! My 3 year old has a toy box FULL of toys-the only thing I find myself picking up off the floor are books.
